Pilot Roy Jones and mechanic Gerald Smith landed in the Tongass Narrows at Ketchikan on July 17, 1922, eleven days
after leaving Seattle. Jones flew a Curtiss MF-6-K Seagull, an open cockpit biplane equipped with a Hispano Sniza
180 HP engine. There had been several mechanical breakdowns and some bad weather en route.
Jones continued to carry passengers in
Southeast Alaska until August 5, 1923, when he crashed the North bird taking off from Heckman lake. No one was hurt, but the plane was a total loss.
