Description:
This Pan American Airways' Sikorsky S-43 Clipper makes history as the first large aircraft to land in Ketchikan, bringing the first load of air express mail on August 7, 1938. A Seattle to Ketchikan to Juneau route was made twice-weekly until discontinued in 1940 in favor of land plane service to Juneau using an inland route (with better weather) through Canada.
