Wayne Price
Tlingit
Carved steam-bent and painted Tlingit canoe model. In Southeast Alaska, communities are connected by water. Canoes are central to the lifeways and cultural identities of the Indigenous Peoples of the region. Large dugout cedar canoes are carved from a single red cedar tree and can be up to 70 feet (21.3 meters) long. Clan emblems often embellished the sides.
