Title:
Ketchikan Iron Works, 1914
Photographer:
David Nicoll
Description:
Ketchikan Iron Works provided blacksmithing and machinist services to the commercial fishing fleet, canneries, and other businesses from 1913 to 1937. In 1914, they began to offer oxy-acetylene welding, a recent innovation at that time and vast improvement over the older method of forge welding.

The Ketchikan Iron Works was primarily located just north of downtown, on the site now occupied by the Berth 3 covered passenger pavilion. In this image they were located on the waterfront along Nob Hill.
