Description:
The Filipino Community Club celebrated New Year's Eve, Rizal Day, and installation of officers at this gala dinner and dance. The newly installed officers are shown above with Mayor and Mrs. George H. Beck, honored guests for the festivities. Felix Zamora was re-elected as the president of the Filipino community. Other officers include F. D. Roxas, vice president; Mrs. Lillian Zamora, secretary, and Ricardo Ricardo, treasurer. Trustees include Manuel Macaguiwa, Vincent Tongson, Frank Zamora, Hermy Valdez and Mrs. J. Dool. Johnny Vinegas is the chief sergeant-at-arms, assisted by Diasado Barros and Leon Sabanal.

Many Filipinos originally immigrated to Ketchikan to work in the canneries, moving here as early as 1908. Ketchikan was home to the first Filipino Community Club in Alaska, dating back to the 1930s. Originally known as the Filipino Social Club, its Stedman Street location was in an area known as "Indian Town", indicative of the racial segregation of that era. Today, almost 10% of our community members are of Filipino descent.
