Title:
Public Library Site?
Photographer:
Paulu T. Saari
Description:
In 1954, the City-owned lot between then Christian Science Church (now Main Street Gallery) and the commercial building - now a parking lot - was being considered as the site for a new public library. At the time, the library was occupying two rooms in City Hall. In the end, the lot was sold and the library stayed in its cramped City Hall quarters until 1968, when it was moved to the Centennial building on Dock Street. Two buildings occupied the lot in the mid-1950s. The building on the right was used by the Territorial Department of Mines, and the other was occasionally used for Community College classes.
