In the background is the Austin Towers Apartments building (now Tongass Towers,) completed in May 1954. Bert Houghtaling, who started the Log Cabin Grocery in the early 1930s at 1944 Tongass, built this new, larger store in 1946. The building was eventually demolished. A parking lot exists on the site today.
