Then & Now : A community photography exhibit connecting Ketchikan's past to the present through the recreation of historic photos
Title:
Soft Goods
Description:
"The connection between the historical photo of Heckman & Co., Dry Goods Section and the 'now' photo within Soft Goods and Green Things Fabric Store is fabric and three lovely ladies in the 'now' photo. Both stores carried, or now carry, fabric, trim, and other items used for making clothing, quilts, and more. Three of the ladies in the photo have shopped at both stores. When recreating the 'then' photo, I learned more about life in Ketchikan while listening to Gail, Jean, and Karen speak of their experiences associated with Heckman's. I find it interesting that the photo taken around 1916 shows bolts of dotted fabric wrapped with what appears to be paper bands — almost 100 years later, I still receive bolts of fabric wrapped in paper bands." — Patricia Palkovic
