Ketchikan is - Capturing Time
Title:
Front Street looking South, circa 1916
Photographer:
David Nicoll
Description:
The Stedman Hotel is in the left foreground. At the end of the next block, the cupola of the Revilla Hotel, topped by a flagpole, can be seen. The Tongass Trading Co. building, completed in 1913 without an awning over the sidewalk, now sports a fancy one, with backlit glass lettering. Note the narrowness of the planked street. Front Street was paved in 1920; but it wasn't widened until the 1950s.
