Sustaining Community
Description:
Reub's 25th Annual Alaska Game Dinner Placemat, 1986

Reub Crossett (1920-1985) was the owner of the Pioneer Bar. Reub held an annual fundraiser, a "ruckus night," with the men of Ketchikan. They ate wild game, drank, and donated lots of money. The money raised from Reub's Alaska Game Dinners went to help people in Ketchikan with rent, food, and healthcare.

When Reub died in 1985, he left a large portion of his estate in trust to Seattle Children's Hospital for the health and well-being of the children of Southeast Alaska. In 1988, the Reuben E. Crossett Endowed Alaskan Fund was founded.

The Crossett Fund provides seed money for community-based projects to improve the health of children living in Southeast Alaska. As of September 2015, the endowment stood at $2 million.
