Sustaining Community

Pull Up a Chair

"Breaking bread with people is a huge part of the joy of being alive."
- Elizabeth Johannsen, Co-owner of the New York Café

Food builds community. Sharing meals strengthens our bonds and nourishes our relationships. Eating the same food builds trust and a sense of responsibility to each other. It brings people together, bridging cultural and generational divides.

Traditional foods and cherished family recipes connect us to our culture, our ancestors, and to where we come from. Think about the times you have spent with family and friends around a table, connecting with your children or parents each day, or eating a romantic dinner with your favorite person. Food helps us slow down, talk, laugh, and to meet each other where we are at.

These times fill more than our stomachs. They fill our hearts and our minds. There is always so much to talk about with food. This common ground becomes a way to meet new people, share recipes, and teach the techniques your grandmother used. All of this is what really makes a shared experience memorable - and what brings us together.
