Daniel Marsden Sr. is a commercial fisherman and diver, and captain of the F/V Talia Rae. He comes from a fishing family dating back to his great grandfather, Edward Marsden, who was a fisherman and founded the Metlakatla Presbyterian Church. Daniel grew up on the water. His earliest memory is being strapped to his father on his grandfather's boat the F/V Barbara Anne during rough weather. When he graduated high school he became a commercial diver, harvesting sea cucumbers and geoducks in the winter and seining for salmon in the summer. Early on in his fishing career, Daniel got involved in fisheries management and has served on the Metlakatla Indian Community Tribal Council and has been Chairman on the Natural Resource Committee. He is passionate about managing Metlakatla's fisheries for future generations.
