History Afloat: Voices from the Working Waterfront
Craig Thomas, Commercial Diver and Captain of F/V Dive Master
Craig Thomas is a commercial diver and captain of the F/V Dive Master. Craig began commercial diving in 1993. He harvests sea cucumbers, geoducks, and sea urchins, which sell to markets as far away as Japan. The F/V Dive Master was originally a liveaboard boat and Craig refitted it into a custom commercial dive boat. Despite the physically demanding job, Craig enjoys exploring the waters of Southeast Alaska and has an intimate knowledge of every bay and inlet.
