"Morning Fire Guts House
Fire this morning gutted one house and resulted in considerable fire and water damage to a neighboring building. The blaze was touched off by a flooded oil stove which burst into flame at the Edmund Allain residence, 114-A Elliott street. The fire spread to the oil tank which exploded and carried the flames to the neighboring two-apartment dwelling at 114 Elliott street.

City firemen worked for al most an hour in cramped quarters before the blaze was under control. The first alarm was turned in at 8:03 this morning and was followed shortly by a second alarm when firemen learned the extent of the blaze.

COMPLETELY GUTTED
The Allain house, a one-story frame building was completely gutted and is probably beyond repair. One wall of the two-story frame dwelling at 114 Elliott was badly burned and water damage to the two apartments was considered extensive. Edmund (Bob) Lane occupies the lower apartment, and the harder-hit upper apartment is occupied by W. E, (Bill) Hamilton. Both buildings are owned by W. E. (Bill) Muller.

The location of the fire, between Water Street and the 1500 block of Tongass Avenue, caused difficulty for the firemen in fighting the blaze. The recall was not sounded until almost two hours after the first alarm."
