Kaats, The Man Who Married a Bear
L'axkeit
Mask, 2006

Norman Jackson
Tlingit

Norman Jackson, a Tongass Tlingit of the Eagle moiety, is the youngest son of the late, respected Tongass elder, Esther Shea. The Kaats mask illustrates Jackson's blend of traditional and personal style. It is carved from red alder wood, painted, and decorated with operculum and abalone shell.

This purchase has been made possible through the generous support of the Rasmuson Art Acquisition Fund.
