Cox created the "Raven Dancer" design during the Introduction to Formline Design class taught by Reg Davidson in 2025. After the class, Cox painted the design onto her daughter's drum.
"We are Deisheetaan, so I painted a Raven design on her drum. She enjoys drumming and singing, and I would like to encourage that. I continue learning in order to teach my children - the art, language, food, everything.
The design on the drum is slightly different than the drawing. I'm not an experienced painter but I draw. I'm still learning how to transcribe designs and move from a pencil to paint. Sometimes the design doesn't look balanced when I add color, so I make adjustments to make it make sense - to follow the rules of formline. I learned from Reg that if the eye is drawn to one part of the design, it isn't balanced in that area. Your eye should move across the design. Painting takes practice. I've only just started painting, but with each project I see improvement."- Koot'sāa, Jessica Cox
