The Tongass Historical Society (THS) is a private, non-profit organization whose purpose is to discover, preserve and disseminate knowledge of the history of Ketchikan and Southeast Alaska for present and future generations. We work in partnership with THS to care for their collection housed at the Tongass Historical Museum.

The Museum Advisory Board is appointed by the City Council to assist with planning and advocacy and to serve as liaison with the community.
The Advisory Board meets every other month starting in January on the third Tuesday at 5:30 pm.

The public is welcome to attend. Please contact the Administrative Secretary for meeting packets. If you’re interested in applying to serve on the Museum Advisory Board, please contact the City Clerk or the Museum Director for an application.
The Totem Heritage Center Advisory Committee provides assistance and input to staff on the policies and development of the Totem Heritage Center. A member of the committee serves as a representative to the Museum Advisory Board.
