Then & Now : A community photography exhibit connecting Ketchikan's past to the present through the recreation of historic photos
Title:
Baseball Teams
Description:
"Baseball in Ketchikan is almost as old as Ketchikan itself, as shown in the original photo. I grew up playing Little League on Norman Walker Field and played through some of the earlier years of the Ketchikan High School baseball program. This is my tenth year as a coach with the high school team, and while the uniforms, the equipment, and the times have changed, the conditions haven't changed much in the last 100 years. We still play in sideways rain on a dirt surface that looks and feels like low tide. The experience produces a special brand of kid and love for the game that would be difficult to find elsewhere. The boys had a blast being a part of this project, and now they want a new set of uniforms complete with collars and for me to wear a suit." — Andy Berntson
