Instructor Student Case 2020
Description:

"Tree Shadows"
Red and Yellow Cedar Bark Hat, 2019

Josephine Guthrie, Haa Yakei Sigoot (Gaanaxadi Raven Clan)
Tlingit and Haida

This cedar bark hat is made in the Haida style using double warp.

"My cultural inspiration originates and starts with a small village on Prince of Wales Island called Klawock where I learned incredibly young the value of respect for ceremony, protocols, song, dance, and regalia workshops as well as learning arduous work and living off the land. There is a deep connection involved when creating art to share and wear that I want others to have the same powerful and life changing experiences. I am committed to preserving traditional practices and whole heartedly believe in the importance to preserve traditional styles for our children's children to learn from."
