Memorial Pole: Eagle Beaver
Kasa'áan (Old Kasaan)
Haida
The rings carved on the shaft of this totem pole represent the number wáahlaal (potlatches) that this host has offered. Rings are never added to a pole; if a future potlatch is offered, a new pole will be carved that bears an additional ring. Original paint remains near the chin, eyes, and ears of the beaver at the base of the pole. It can also be found under the wings of the eagle at the top.
