Karen Hanson Pitcher, Former Owner and First Mate of F/V Nevada

Karen Hanson Pitcher and her late husband, Dave Pitcher, fished commercially for 28 years. They owned and fished the F/V Camano, F/V Nevada, and F/V Sugar. Wendell Pitcher, Dave's father, bought the F/V Nevada and fished it for many years. The troller was built in 1948 and named after the first owner's wife, not the state. Wendell eventually bought a fiberglass boat, allowing Karen and Dave to buy the F/V Nevada from him. They began fishing it around 1978. Dave was heavily involved in fish politics, serving important roles within the Alaska Trollers Association, Southern Southeast Regional Aquaculture Association, and the Seafood Producers Cooperative. The Pitchers quit fishing and sold the boat when Dave developed a neurodegenerative disease. The F/V Nevada is currently in dry dock at Air Marine Harbor.
