This Ravenstail graduation cap is made from merino wool, copper cones, mother of pearl buttons, and trimmed with sea otter fur. Schreckhise wore this cap during her graduation ceremony in 2025.

"My daughters were in college, and I thought, if they could do it, so could I. I went back to school at 42 and graduate this year at 46 with an English degree, earning Magna Cum Laude honors. It's something I always wanted to do. I'm shy, but I wanted to show my culture with this cap.

My grandmother, Maria Miller, was a Chilkat weaver. I was a teenager when she died and didn't have the chance to learn directly from her. I first learned to weave from Dorica Jackson and have been weaving for about five years now. I'm reclaiming my culture and my connection to my grandmother.

I like to wear my grandmother's silver bracelet when I weave because then she's with me. I wouldn't be doing this if it wasn't for the impression she made on me."
